What: BOOMbox provides tools and inspiration focusing on a different theme every few months. Through February, we’re featuring everything you need for fabrication and rapid prototyping–3D printers, a vinyl cutter, Arduino Inventor Kits, and more.
Who: kids in grades 5-8 (ages 10-14),
When: December 10th, from 10am to 12pm.
Alternate activities for children younger than 10 may be provided.
Where: Skokie Public Library, 5215 Oakton Street Skokie, 60077.
The BOOMbox is located in Youth Services near the Junior High Area.
While in the space, kids are encouraged to design for the 3D printers, Eggbot Pro, and vinyl cutter on provided tablets equipped with Bluetooth mice and keyboards. When designs are ready, a staff member will setup the equipment and execute the design. Kids may not directly interact with the 3D printers, vinyl cutter, or Eggbot Pro. We’ll also set up two 3Doodlers (handheld 3D printing pens) and two Arduino Inventor Kits, which can be used by kids with minimal staff involvement.
Library is providing supplies with restrictions. 3D print jobs exceeding 30 minutes will follow a cost structure of $1 for each additional 30 minutes increment, with a maximum of 2 hours. Vinyl designs are limited to 4 inches x 4 inches with a selection of colors to choose from. One ping pong ball, golf ball, or plastic egg will be provided for Eggbot Pro designs. All designs are executed at the discretion of the staff member.
