For 9 years EDGE Youth Theatre has been involved in the homeschooling community. They offer diverse classes for the raw beginner and the seasoned actor. From stage combat to history, from backstage to writing, you’ll love what we have…out here on the EDGE.

This class will explore by daylight the cemeteries of Chicago and the locations of its most notorious haunts. Learn Chicago history and the ghost that haunt it. Use the newest technologies and learn some old school techniques for finding spooks. Learn the legends and explore the mystery. This class meets at a different location every week. Families are encouraged to take this class together for a great discount! What could be better than a hot chocolate and a walk through a grave yard?

“The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” performance class!
The Wardrobe stands waiting. It just needs see to walk through it. Join EDGE as we enter the brand new adaptation of the classic by Jared McDaris (Winter 2014’s Hobbit). Can Aslan defeat the white witch? Or will it always be winter and never Christmas? Join the struggle, for right, for light and FOR NARNIA!!

Improv for Anyone!
Professional improv artist, host of Improv Gladiators and one of our resident instructors  Miquela Cruz joins us for another session of Improv. Great for the shy actor, the actor who doesn’t think they’re funny and everyone else too. Games, challenges and oh so much laughter await you!

Strange accents and Funny Voices
Dialect work can be so much fun and a great skill for actors to bring character work to a piece. In this class learn the basic skills that you’ll need to sound like you are from England, France, Spain, Australia and possibly Narnian and  a protector of Gotham.

Battle Blaster-Zombie Apocalypse
You face them now. The countless hordes. You aren’t  locked in here with them, they are locked in here …with you! Explore tactics, projectile weapons, Melee and an ever changing scenario.  Sometimes you’re the hero, sometimes the zombie and sometimes, you are just lunch. This Nerf based class is all about exploring options, decision making and hand to eye coordination. Take that basketball!
“But wait my kid is just gonna whoop on and be whooped by kids for an hour?”
Yup!
“How is that educational?”
Uh… Books ya’ll it’s based on books! Also winning graciously, loosing with honor, tactics, courage, sacrifice, organization, time management and lots of other life lessons forged on the field of battle!!!

Yup! Doooooooooo iiiiiitttttt!
Required: At least one nerf gun or bow and plenty of ammo. At least one nerf melee weapon. Clothes you can move in. Water bottle and snack.
Recommended: Eye protection and helmet (bike, kayak, sparring) cuz … Life man
Notes:
-weather permitting games may be held outside at a nearby park to be disclosed.
-Please note that drop-ins are welcome at a prorated rate but the minimum must still be enrolled.
-Nerf styled toys are cool. Doesn’t have to be name brands.
-Plan on losing or destroying your ammo. We’ll be sharing ammo too but we will not be arguing about who’s ammo belongs to who.
– Write your name on all your gear! There is no guarantee that your gear will survive this class.

Acting in a Drama
This non performance class gets into the nitty gritty of scene work. When the stakes are high, when its win or loose, how do you play the scene? Explore scripts and your ability to convey the story in this scene study class.

Tech Ninja- British Authors Edition
Our ongoing task of creating the incredible worlds we need for our shows. With Victorian England and the battlefields of Narnia looming we have our work cut, hot glued, and chopped out for us. Scenic painting, basic light design, and and emphasis on props!

The Art of the Ghost Story- Performance optional Class
Explore the world of story telling a proper ghost story. Learn the techniques behind the art and the flare to bring it to life. Read stories aloud and hear versions of Chicago legends. This class ends with a wonderful evening of story telling by Orion Couling and  any participants who want to terrify the audience.

“We Almost Had Him” performance class!
Our teen ensemble is invited to join a host of villains as they retelling the time they nearly thwarted Sherlock Holmes. A new script by Jared McDaris inspired by a Batman story, this show promises to weave intrigue and action in true Sherlockian Style!
